GeoHealth Innovations delivered a presentation at the quarterly meeting of the Virginia Asthma Coalition (VAC) in Richmond. The mission of the VAC (virginiaasthmacoalition.org) is to enhance the quality of life for Virginians with asthma. Steve Sedlock, founder and executive director of GeoHealth Innovations, and Beth Manghi, data analyst and project manager at GeoHealth Innovations, presented on “Geospatial Analysis of Outpatient and Inpatient Asthma Incidence in Virginia: An Overview Using Health Outcome Data”. GeoHealth Innovations and the Virginia Department of Health conducted the first-ever cluster analysis of asthma outcome data in Virginia, and applied additional geospatial analysis tools to focus areas in the Tidewater and Southwest Virginia regions. Steve Sedlock, founder and executive director of GeoHealth Innovations, participated in forming policy framework and health data initiatives during work group sessions at the Virginia Rural Health Conference. Since its early beginnings, GeoHealth Innovations has been at the forefront of Virginia rural health data policy, analysis, and distribution. In 2009, GeoHealth Innovations created the geospatial component of Virginia Rural Health Data Portal, and continues to maintain and advance its functionality into 2011 and beyond. GeoHealth Innovations delivered a presentation at the American Public Health Association in Denver, Colorado. APHA is the largest meeting of public health professionals, physicians, researchers, and educators in the world. Steve Sedlock, founder and executive director of GeoHealth Innovations, co-presented on “Community Context in Understanding Geographic Disparities in Social Determinants of Health”. The presentation was done in cooperation with the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center on Human Needs. GeoHealth Innovations presented its geospatial analytic process in the study of health outcomes and social determinants of health, employing spatial autocorrelation and spatial regression. GeoHealth Innovations delivered two presentations at the ESRI Health Conference in Denver, Colorado. ESRI Health is the largest meeting of GIS health application users in the world. Steve Sedlock, founder and executive director of GeoHealth Innovations, presented on “The Virginia Rural Health Data Portal”; and “Geospatial Analysis of Stroke Hospitalizations in Virginia”. The data portal presentation was conducted in cooperation with the Virginia Rural Health Resource Center, and was done as a demonstration of the geospatial and statistical components of the portal. The data portal is the most comprehensive online source for health and social determinant data in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
